The holiday season is now on us. There are reminders all around us, and whatever we may feel about the season in the northern Hemisphere, with the cold and darkness… the abundance of lights everywhere does certainly add a bit of a sparkle to our nights. This photograph was taken in front of the City Hall in downtown Kingston. While I usually only work with available light, I decided to try a flash experiment. I had set the camera exposure for the tree lights, but used the built-in flash to overexpose the tree which was already brilliantly highlighted by the street lamps around the City Hall. The result is a ghostly overexposed tree, with just-right colourful lights strung about. This image was not adjusted in any way post-production, but is what I captured that night. I particularly liked how the wires connecting the lights really stood out in this image when I could hardly see them with my eyes in the dark.
