Project 52 – No 34. That big pumpkin is not for sale

23 10 2010

Yesterday,  I walked over to our local discount supermarket to pick up some milk.  It was a blustery overcast day, and my mind was on other things so I wasn’t really looking for photographs. However, this display caught my eye.  The supermarket’s orange sign with its blue border complements the pumpkins, plus what appealed to me was the desolate look of the scattered pumpkins, arranged without much thought. It reminded me of the traditional gap-toothed smile on a jack-lantern.   The blue reflections of the leaf-less trees in the window brings together the two orange zones of the image.

The big misshapen one on the top shelf is not for sale – it has a scribbled “For Display Only” on its side.
